Native American JewelryWhether you are a serious collector of Vintage Native American Indian jewelry looking for the perfect piece to add to a collection or someone that just wants a fun piece of jewelry to wear, Indian jewelry offers a broad range of styles and materials to choose from. Although many Native American tribes have made jewelry the type that most people associate with Native American jewelry are the pieces made in the Southwest by the Navajo, Zuni, Hopi and Santo Domingo. Jewelry from the later 1800's up until the early 20th century was created in coin silver using old U.S. or Mexican coins that the silversmith melted down and hammered out into wire and sheets of silver to create their work. Later sterling silver or copper became the choice of the craftsman and many of these pieces were set with Turquoise, Coral, Mother of Pearl, Spiny Oyster and Petrified Wood. The Navajo silversmiths were know for their metal work often set with Turquoise, the Zuni are known for their needle work and inlay styles and the Hopi pierced and overlay work, with the Santo Domingo known for their mosaics and bead work. Many collectors today are building important collections of pieces that are referred to as Fred Harvey style or Tourist style which were created from about 1900 until the 1960's that feature stamp work Indian symbols of arrows, rain, snakes, animals etc. Click on one of the links below to view our collection |
